Watch: Umpires allow Wriddhiman Saha to take DRS even after completion of time in IPL 2023 match

IPL 2023

The defending champions Gujarat Titans registered a huge victory over Mumbai Indians in match number 35 of IPL 2023 at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad on Tuesday. However, an instance took place during the match that caught the attention of fans in no time. GT batter Wriddhiman Saha was given DRS even after the timer was over.

During the third over of the first innings when GT were batting Saha gloved Arjun Tendulkar to the wicketkeeper Ishan Kishan down the leg side who took the catch to give MI a first breakthrough. The bowler appealed for the wicket and the Umpire raised his finger to signal out. After that, Saha went to his opening partner Shubman Gill to consult for a review. After the discussion, he decided to challenge the decision by asking for a DRS.

Here’s the video:

However, Saha signalled for a DRS after the 15 seconds were over. Despite this, the two on-field umpires Anil Chaudhary and Nand Kishore upheld the call and went upstairs to the third umpire.

“Oh, too late brother! You’re out of here,” said Danny Morrison during his commentary in the match after Saha signalled for review. However, he left shocked after the umpires accepted the request and went upstairs.

Former Australian pacer Brett Lee with the decision, as he Tweeted, “Why have the 15-sec referral rule in cricket if the 3rd umpire doesn’t enforce it?”

However, the review didn’t help Saha as his gloves were touching the ball and he was given out as GT lost their first wicket at the score of 12 runs. However, it didn’t help MI much as GT went on to score 207 runs for the loss of 6 wickets, powered by the half-century by Shubman Gill (56 off 34). After that, David Miller (46 off 22) and Abhinav Manohar (42 off 21) took charge and the finishing touches by Rahul Tewatia (20 off 5) helped GT to past 200. Chasing the winning total, MI, kept losing wickets at regular intervals and could only reach 152 for the loss of 9 wickets.
