The popular ‘mauka mauka’ advertisement, which gained a lot of attention, will not be played by Star Sports in the upcoming 2022 Asia Cup clash between India and Pakistan. Both cricketing rivals are set to face each other for the first time this year on the 28th of August but fans will not be treated with this famous ad.
The mauka mauka television campaign was created by Star Sports India in 2015 to promote the 2015 Cricket World Cup. This campaign was specifically created for the India-Pakistan match and was a huge success among Indian cricket fans. Following an overwhelming response, this campaign also followed India’s matches against other nations, particularly against England in the 2019 World Cup.
This campaign revolved around Pakistan never beating India in a World Cup game, but that changed last year. India suffered their first defeat against Pakistan in the mega tournament when Babar Azam-led Pakistan thrashed India by 10 wickets in the 2021 20-20 World Cup in UAE. The first-ever advertisement was about a Pakistani fan waiting to crack firecrackers during India against Pakistan match in 1992. But the wait for winning against India continues till his son asks him about when to crack firecrackers in 2015.
But now Pakistan have won against India, the mauka mauka campaign doesn’t make any sense for the producers at Star Sports unless they come up with something new. Thus, according to a report by CrickTracker, this ad won’t be featured during the Asia Cup 2022. Indian fans will definitely miss this campaign, which was listed among the top-five sports marketing campaigns in 2015 by Forbes Magazine.
India and Pakistan are favorites to win the 2022 Asia Cup starting on August 27. Both the giants are likely to play against each other in the finals as well on September 11 with Sri Lanka, Bangladesh, Afghanistan, and UAE being the four other participants. India are the current champions of this tournament after winning it in 2018 and 2016, beating Bangladesh in final of the both editions. On the other hand, Pakistan finished the latest edition in number three position and last won this famous tournament in 2012.
