The Road Safety World Series came up with a full match on Thursday after numerous were abandoned due to rain. India Legends was the worst hit with two out of three of its matches being rain hit.
22nd September however saw a full game of cricket between India and England Legends. Let’s see how it panned out.
Match 14- India Legends vs England Legends:
England drew the first blood when they won the toss and elected to bowl. Second-placed India started off in an emphatic fashion as both openers, Naman Ojha (20) and Sachin Tendulkar (40) played some fine shots to take the team score past 60. Suresh Raina (12) and Yusuf Pathan (27) took charge of the batting after the departure of both openers and added important runs to the team score.
Yuvraj Singh (31*) remained unbeaten in the end as India Legends reached 170/5 in 20 overs on the back of a great team effort. Stephen Parry from the England Legends side came up with a three-wicket haul and was their best bowler.
Coming on to chase what was a good total from India, the England Legends side started well with Dimitri Mascarenhas (12) and Phil Mustard (29) playing sensibly. Rajesh Pawar however was able to break the opening partnership and the England team collapsed from then on. Captain Ian Bell who played well in the last match could not bring his team out of limbo as he got out at just 12 from 13 deliveries.
Rikki Clarke one of the better players in the team also failed to deliver this time around and went back to the dressing room after making just nine runs. Chris Schofield (19) and Chris Tremlett (24) tried to give a good fight by the target proved too big for them in the end and they lost by 40 runs.
Sachin Tendulkar was adjudged the Player of the Match for his 40 runs contribution.
