Ricky Ponting has picked India’s top three for the T20 World Cup. The former Australian told in the Cricket’s governing body review show that the top three for India in the T20 World Cup should be Rohit, Rahul and Kohli. Rohit will be leading the Indian side in this year’s T20 World Cup. Ricky Ponting, in the same review show, backed Kohli and suggested that he should bat at no 3. He also added that he should be given enough opportunities.
The former Australian captain did retain Virat at no 3 in the team that he picked for India. He said that the opening slots would be for Rohit and Rahul. Rahul is currently undergoing rehabilitation at NCA and might well join the India squad for the T20Is against West Indies. He is also set to lead the Indian side that is touring Zimbabwe starting from August 18. Rahul might as well try to prove his potential as captain in the series against Zimbabwe.
Rohit, on the other hand, is rested for the ODI series against West Indies. And he’ll be back to lead India in the T20I series. In his absence, Shikhar will be leading the ODI squad that has already arrived in the Caribbean. Rohit, as a captain, has been incredible for India. The veteran batter Virat Kohli has been rested for the series against West Indies. The latter has been through an extreme rough phase and has dried of runs of late. But Ricky Ponting had other ideas when asked about Kohli and revealed that if he were the coach of India, he would have placed Virat at no 3 without changing it.
The Indian team was knocked out of the last year in the group stage and they would like to make a comeback in this year’s T20 World Cup. They may consider the T20 Asia Cup which comes before the big event as an opportunity to set things right. If Ricky’s pick proves to be right, then it might mark the beginning of something special in T20Is for India.
