India vs New Zealand

In the 21st match of the ongoing ODI World Cup 2023, India faced table-toppers New Zealand at the HPCA Cricket Stadium in Dharamshala. In the iconic clash, fog played spoilsport as it caused a brief halt during the game. For the first time in the ongoing tournament, fog stopped the game as there was very low visibility on the ground.

It’s worth noting that, despite high chances of rain, the game started without any interruption. The first innings ended with ease as India bundled up the opposition for 273 runs in 50 overs. However, in the second inning of the game, the fog came down in a hurry and stopped the game. The umpires had a chat with both Indian batters and Kiwi bowlers and halted the game.

However, it didn’t take too much time, as ground staff soon sprayed anti-fog chemicals on the ground and helped teams have a quick start. Their efforts helped the umpires resume the game within ten minutes. Despite that, the interruptions caused a lapse of concentration in the Indian camp as the team lost batter Shreyas Iyer. Iyer, in his inning, scored 33 runs off 29 balls with the help of six boundaries.

Can Virat Kohli sail India to a memorable victory?

After his departure, India was looking down on the game, but former India skipper Virat Kohli had some other plans. Kohli, along with wicketkeeper-batter KL Rahul, added 54 runs for the fourth wicket. Rahul, in his innings, scored 27 runs off 35 balls with the help of three boundaries. However, soon after the second drinks break, Rahul was dismissed by spinner Mitchell Santner.

It’s worth noting that earlier, in the run chase, India had a flying start as opener Rohit Sharma and Shubman Gill added quick runs. Rohit, in his innings, scored 46 runs off four fours and four sixes. However, Gill, in his inning, scored 26 runs off 31 balls with the help of five boundaries. Now, India has all its hope in Kohli in a crucial game. The 33-year-old batter will need to step up and win the game for India.
