The star Australia batter Glenn Maxwell has been excluded from the ODI World Cup match against England in Ahmedabad. The reason behind this is that it is due to a concussion that he suffered at a golf-related incident on Monday. Maxwell was grasping the rear of a golf cart during his return from the clubhouse to the team bus in the early evening. The day was a scheduled day off when he inadvertently lost his grip.
The journey was reportedly brief, and there was an insufficient number of carts to accommodate everyone seated. The star Australia batter is anticipated to be placed under concussion protocols for a period spanning six to eight days.
“He’s been honest with the information he’s provided. He’s doing fine, he’ll start some light exercises today and we feel as though it will be a reasonably straightforward return to play protocol. Suppose the fortunate part was there was no other injury sustained which could have been a lot worse than it currently is. Think it rattled everyone to be fair once it concluded there was a concussion and he was going to miss a game. There was nothing untoward in the behaviour throughout the day, it was a clear-cut accident and unfortunately, it’s compromised what we are doing as a team,” head coach Andrew McDonald said.
Glenn Maxwell made a return from leg injury
The star all-round player also experienced a serious leg injury last year after slipping at a friend’s birthday party. It eventually sidelined him for nearly five months. This recent setback necessitates Australia to find a replacement for one of their key middle-order players in the game against England.
Either Marcus Stoinis or Cameron Green will probably step in. While Marnus Labuschagne is now expected to maintain his spot in the starting lineup. Earlier in the tournament, Maxwell made a remarkable 40-ball century against the Netherlands. He even played a vital role as the second spinner alongside Adam Zampa. Travis Head will now have an increased responsibility with the ball.
