ODI World Cup 2023

WATCH : Glenn Maxwell smoke vape during Australia’s humiliating loss to South Africa in ODI World Cup 2023

Australia are currently in ninth spot after their second consecutive defeat at the ODI World Cup 2023.

Glenn Maxwell

In the ODI World Cup 2023 game between Australia and South Africa in Lucknow, all-rounder Glenn Maxwell got caught on camera vaping after being dismissed. With the ball, Maxwell had a respectable performance, taking two wickets. He did not stay for long at the crease because he was unable to repeat his theatrics with the bat. Maxwell was seen smoking a vape while sitting in the dugout after leaving the ground.

At the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai, Australia lost to South Africa for the second time in a row in a World Cup match. And in the midst of their poor performance, scandal has arisen as a few of their stars were spotted vaping in the dressing room. The 34-year-old, who was undoubtedly Australia’s best, claimed two wickets. But the swashbuckler’s experiences with the bat were very different. He was sent back to the pavilion by Keshav Maharaj after only managing 3 runs off 17 deliveries.

Additionally, Maxwell was seen smoking an e-cigarette in the stadium changing rooms after losing his wicket. The Aussies lost by a large margin of 134 runs against South Africa. They are currently stuck on ninth place in the ODI World Cup 2023 League standings.

We need to find ways of performing: Pat Cummins

The Australian skipper after the game spoke to the media in the post-match presentation. He spoke about the team’s bowling performance. He said, “I thought Quinton (de Kock) batted really well, couldn’t get a breakthrough. From where they were, we were quite happy with 310, thought it was chaseable. Looked like hard work out there tonight, their bowlers bowled really well, think it nipped around a bit more under lights.

The fast bowler then reflected on their ODI World Cup 2023 ambitions and things to improve upon. He said, “Really hard to say, if we want to be challenging in this tournament we need to find ways of performing regardless of batting first or second. Don’t think much needs to be said tonight, everyone’s hurting, we’ll try and take a couple of days off and then make amends to come back stronger in the next one. There’s a few things we need to tidy up.”
