‘Jitega toh koi aur’- Fans react as Former England captain believes India are favourites to win ODI World Cup 2023

The ODI World Cup 2023 will commence on October 5.

Former World Cup-winning captain of England Eoin Morgan believes India has a good chance of winning the 2023 World Cup. He also praised the undying passion of Indian cricket fans and pushed for the wider popularization of the T10 format. England would attempt to defend their championship four years later, led by Jos Buttler.

England will have the difficult task of competing in Indian conditions against the world’s best teams. In an interview, the former England captain named his four favourites to reach the semi-finals. He also discussed India’s possibilities in the World Cup and the country’s role as host.

I believe will be favourites going into the World Cup: Eoin Morgan

Eoin Morgan said, “When it comes to the business end of the tournament, I have no doubt England will be there, I have no doubt India will be there. And the other teams I would probably see potentially lifting the trophy are Australia and Pakistan, two very very strong teams, and two contenders when it comes to big competitions.”

Speaking about India’s chances in the tournament, he was full of praise for the Rohit Sharma-led team. He stated “They’re an excellent cricket team that I believe will be favourites going into the World Cup. You don’t have to rewind the clock back that far when MS Dhoni was captain back in 2011, and that magical moment for all Indian fans when he hit that ball over long-on for six, and India lifted the trophy.”

Talking about home advantage the former captain said, “Home advantage is quite a key thing, but if you were to advise anything you would say engage with the people who were there, and were leaders throughout that journey, and pick their brain. The likes of Virat Kohli played in that team and has first-hand experience of what it is like. It is going to be a hell of a tournament that I am looking forward to.”

The Englishman, who is now in Zimbabwe playing in the ZimAfro T10 league, also mentioned New Zealand and how his England squad aimed to follow in their footsteps in terms of mental approach to the grand event.
