The Indian pace sensation Jasprit Bumrah has been ruled out of the 20-20 World Cup in what has come out as a huge blow to the Men in Blues. The right-arm pacer did not travel to India- South Africa first T20I in Thiruvananthapuram due to a back stress fracture but an Indian Cricket Board source has said that he would require a recovery time of four to six months which rules him out of the upcoming World Cup in Australia.
Earlier, the pace sensation pulled out of the Asia Cup 2022 due to a back injury as well. Hopes however had remained high as the Ahmedabad-born bowler came back to the side in the second T20I against Australia and took the team to two consecutive wins.

Ahead of the India- South Africa T20I match, the Indian Cricket Board has notified all of Bumrah’s back issue with a tweet that read, “Jasprit Bumrah complained of back pain during India’s practice session on Tuesday. The Indian Cricket Board Medical team assessed him. He is ruled out of first India vs South Africa T20I.”
Although the Indian Cricket Board has not yet confirmed of the 28-year-old’s exclusion, many reports suggest what the Indian fans have dreaded recently. The right-arm bowler sustained a back spasm when touring England prior to the Asia Cup 2022. Mohammad Shami was included as a reserve player for the World Cup 2022 and if things go right, he could be moved right into the squad as Bumrah’s replacement.
Shami however is yet to fully recover from his COVID infection that he sustained right before the India- Australia T20I series. The India squad for the upcoming world cup is as follows.
