‘Jaldi aaja bhai, itne time main ek baccha bhi hojata hai’ – Fans react to Jasprit Bumrah returning to full fitness ahead of Indian team’s busy schedule

Jasprit Bumrah is scheduled to return to international cricket next month in the series against Ireland

Jasprit Bumrah

After having back surgery, India quick Jasprit Bumrah is almost fully recovered and is expected to play in the T20I series versus Ireland next month. The National Cricket Academy (NCA) in Bengaluru has steadily increased Bumrah’s workload since his operation in March. He is currently delivering 8 to 10 overs while bowling hard at the nets.

Bumrah’s development over the past few weeks has made him eligible to travel to Ireland with a backup Indian side, contrary to the selectors and team management’s plans to include him in the Asia Cup in September. In the upcoming days, his involvement will be decided as the team will get announced.

Bumrah is being treated with additional caution because he hasn’t played in a competitive game of cricket since last September. However, there are hints that he might possibly participate in a few exhibition games at the NCA prior to the Ireland tour.

He will play a few practice matches (at NCA) next month: Sources

According to a report from Press Trust of India last month revealed the injury and recovery of the Mumbai Indians bowler. The source said, “For an injury of this nature, it is not wise to set any timeline as constant monitoring is necessary. But it can be said that Bumrah is recovering well and he has bowled seven overs at NCA nets. It is a steady increase in his workload from the light workouts and bowling sessions of the initial period. He will play a few practice matches (at NCA) next month, and there will be a close assessment of his fitness then.”

Prasidh Krishna, who missed the IPL as well due to a back issue, is also making a good recovery and has started bowling again. The Asia Cup squad is expected to include the 27-year-old, which might strengthen India’s pace attack. India will have a powerful speed attack for the ODI World Cup 2023 in October-November with Bumrah and Prasidh healthy and raring to go.
