In the curtain-raiser game of the inaugural season of Major League Cricket (MLC) 2023, the Texas Super Kings (TSK) beat the LA Knight Riders (LAKR) by 69 runs. In what was a one-sided affair, TSK, led by Devon Conway and David Miller, dominated the game. Both Conway and Miller smashed blistering half-centuries, while Mohammed Mohsin led the bowling department.
Earlier, after winning the toss, LAKR skipper Sunil Naraine opted to bowl first. His decision went well with the team, as Lockie Ferguson dismissed TSK skipper Faf du Plessis for a golden duck. Soon, Lahiru Milantha also got out and left TSK at 43/2 in 5.2 overs. However, after that, openers Conway and Miller toyed with LAKR bowlers and helped TKS post a competitive total of 181 for 6 in 20 overs.
Miller, in his innings, scored 61 runs off 42 balls with the help of two boundaries and four sixes. On the other hand, Conway scored 55 runs off 37 balls with the help of seven boundaries and a six. With their amazing performance, TSK posted a competitive total of 181/6 in 20 overs. For LAKR, Ali Khan and Lockie Ferguson clinched two wickets each.
LAKR batters surrender to Mohammad Mohsin
Chasing 182 runs, LAKR got the worst possible start. The team lost opener Martin Guptill and number three batter Rilee Rossouw in the very first over to Rusty Theron. The struggle did not end there as LAKR lost Unmukt Chand, Nitish Kumar, and Jaskaran Malhotra within the powerplay. At the end of the powerplay, LAKR were at 56/5 and struggling to find a way out of trouble.
However, Caribbean superstars Andre Russell and Sunil Narine added 47 runs for the sixth wicket. Narine, in his innings, scored 15 runs off 13 balls with the help of a six. Russell, however, hammered a brilliant half-century as he scored 55 runs off 34 balls with seven boundaries and three sixes. Towards the end, the Knight Riders lost five wickets for only 9 runs and lost the game by 69 runs. For TSK, Mohsin clinched four wickets, while Theron got two wickets.
