The 16th season of the Indian Premier League (IPL 2023) has come to a close. Gujarat Titans, who were defending the title, lost to Chennai Super Kings in the final. With this, the Yellow Brigade has leveled their arch-rival, Mumbai Indians in terms of title wins. Both teams have won five titles each from 2008 -2023. Talking about the recently-concluded season, there were a lot of heartbreaks and some dreams accomplished.

Once again, three-time finalists, Royal Challengers Bangalore once again left empty-handed. Apart from this, two-time winners, Kolkata Knight Riders failed to qualify for the playoffs. On the other hand, MI qualified for Qualifier Two and their wait for their sixth title continues since 2020. Apart from them, one-time winners such as Rajasthan Royals and Sunrisers Hyderabad once again failed to add another one to their kitty.

Meanwhile, in this listicle, we will draw the best and worst possible playing XI of the tournament.

Best and flop playing XI of IPL 2023

Best playing XI –

Top-order batters – Yashasvi Jaiswal, Shubman Gill, and Virat Kohli,

Shubman Gill had a dream season with 890 runs and has the record of amassing the second-most runs in an IPL season. On the other hand, uncapped Yashavi Jaiswal had a breakout season with more than 600 runs alongside Virat Kohli. The former has gotten his maiden India call-up

Middle-order, wicketkeeper, and all-rounders – Suryakumar Yadav, Jitesh Sharma, Tim David, Marcus Stoinis

Either Jitesh Sharma or Nicholas Pooran can keep wickets. Both had a wonderful season with the bat and did well with the gloves too. On the other hand, the likes of Yadav and Stoinis did well for MI and Lucknow Super Giants respectively.

Bowlers – Mohammed Shami, Rashid Khan (c), Mohit Sharma, and Piyush Chawla

The likes of Shami, Khan, Sharma, and Chawla were among the top-five bowlers. Shami won the Purple Cap while the others weren’t that far behind

Flop XI

Top-order batters – Mayank Agarwal, Devdutt Padikkal, Rahul Tripathi

The likes of Mayank Agarwal and Rahul Tripathi didn’t have the best IPL season as expected from them. Apart from this, Padikkal was batting out of his favored position.

Middle-order batters – Harry Brook, Abhishek Sharma, Andre Russell, Dinesh Karthik

Brook had a lot of expectations coming into this season. After all, he was having a great form in international cricket. However, that didn’t happen and he has to be dropped for some games. Apart from this, Sharma and Russell once again had a poor season with the bat. Karthik, who had a dream season last year, will like to forget the 2023 edition.

Bowlers –  Harshal Patel, Sunil Narine, Anrich Nortje, Kuldeep Yadav

The discarded India pacer, Patel could only pick 14 wickets. Even though he had a few good games, his overall performance was poor. Apart from him, the likes of Narine, Nortje, and Yadav failed to live upto their potential.
