In the final of the IPL 2023, defending champions Gujarat Titans locked horns with former champions, Chennai Super Kings in Ahmedabad. After the game was postponed for a day due to rain, the game started smoothly. In the game, the former champions, CSK won the toss and elected to bowl first. However, after Deepak Chahar dropped the catch of Shubman Gill, the decision started proving wrong.

The likes of Gill and Wriddhiman put together 67 runs in seven overs for the first wicket. The former got out, thanks to MS Dhoni’s stumping. With this, the 2018 U19 World Cup finished the tournament with 890 runs in the tournament. Meanwhile, the likes of Saha and Sai Sudarshan kept the good work going as they added another 64 runs. Both Saha (54) and Sudarshan (96) scored fifty each.

With skipper Hardik Pandya playing a cameo, the defending champions reached 214/4. Matheesha Pathirana was expensive but got two wickets while Chahar and Ravindra Jadeja got a wicket each. In reply, the Yellow Brigade scored 4/0 in 0.3 overs before the rain interrupted the game. After a long wait, the game started and it was reduced to 15 overs a side and former champs needed 171 runs to lift the title.

After resumption, the likes of Devon Conway and Ruturaj Gaikwad provided a great start as they scored 74 runs in 6.3 overs. As the Blue Brigade needed a wicket desperately, Noor Ahmed stood up and got rid of Gaikwad. In the same over, Ahmed also took out Conway. These two wickets dried up the boundaries somewhat except for Josh Little. Ajinkya Rahane played a cameo of 27 off 13 balls before getting out to Mohit Sharma.

Ambati Rayudu, who played his last IPL game, hit two sixes and a four to Sharma before the latter struck back. Sharma then took the wicket of MS Dhoni to bring more interest to the game. In the end, Ravindra Jadeja needed to get 10 off two balls and he did it to help his side lift the fifth IPL title.
