The eighth match of the ICC Academy Summer Cup brought Dubai Gymkhana and Valley Boyz from Group A against each other. Let’s see how the match panned out.
Match 8: Dubai Gymkhana vs Valley Boyz
The eighth match of the ICC Academy Summer Cup pit DGA against VB in which VB came out on top. Having won the toss, the Dubai Gymkhana chose to bat first and came up with 182/7 on the scoreboard. They did not have a good opening spell as they lost their first wicket very cheaply at zero runs on the fourth ball of the match.
The next batter Mohammad Shahir (22) played a good knock but none of the batters could take their good start and convert it into high scores.
Jeevan Gangadharan was the only batter to come up with a good score from the DGA side. His 80 runs knock came out in just 37 deliveries with the help of four boundaries and six sixes. On the back of his sensational knock, the DGA team were able to reach 182/7 in 20 overs.
Khalid Ibrahim, with three wickets in four overs, was the best performer with the ball from the VB side.
Coming onto chase what looked like a big total, the VB team got off to a good start with both openers getting past the 20-run mark. They, however, could not get towards a big individual score and were both run-out. Danish Hafiz was sensational with the bat as he scored a quickfire century. His knock of 107 in just 34 balls thwarted the opposition’s bowling unit all over the ground. His knock included 13 fours and seven sixes.
Hafiz’s century knock led the team across the finish line as VB made a mockery of the target and went past it in just 14.5 overs. Hafiz was understandably given the Player of the Match for his century. With this win, the VB move to third in Group A while DGA remains at the bottom with no points so far in the ICC Academy Summer Cup.
