Dubai Gymkhana went against Future Mattress looking for their first win in the ICC Academy Summer Cup but faced disappointment. Future Mattress steamrolled DGA in the 13th match of the tournament and went second on the points table. Let’s look at how the match panned out.
Match 13: Future Mattress vs Dubai Gymkhana
DGA won the toss and elected to bowl first asking FM to set up a target. This proved to be an incorrect decision as FM came back with a humongous 186/7 in 20 overs. After a bit of scare in the beginning, with the loss of their opener Rohan Mustafa on duck, the FM team rose back on its feet with the help of captain Aryan Lakra (13) and Zawar Farid (25).
It was, however, the middle and lower order batters who took the game by the scruff of the neck and brought their team on top. Muhammad Usman was the top scorer with 46 off of 32 in the middle. Wasi Shah made sure the team reaches a good score as he ended the innings with a flurry making 41 runs in 26 deliveries. Jeevan Gangadharana took three wickets in his four-over spell, while four other bowlers took one wicket each.
Coming onto chase this huge total, the DGA team got off to a decent start with both openers playing cautiously. As the first wicket of Mohammad Shahir (15) fell, it started a collapse that was difficult to contain by any of the DGA players. DGA’s poor batting can be summarised by the fact that their top scorer made 19 runs.
Only four of DGA batters were able to breach past a double-digit score and the team perished at 97 in 15 overs. The bowling unit of FM came up with a collective performance in which four bowlers took two wickets each.
In the end, FM won the match by a massive 89 runs sending DGA to search for their first win in another match in the ICC Academy Summer Cup.
