Mumbai Indians skipper Rohit Sharma might have faced the biggest challenge while leading the team in the ongoing IPL 2023. Ahead of the ongoing tournament, the team lost the services of Jasprit Bumrah and Jhye Richardson. Also, Riley Meredith isn’t able to play for some reason and they didn’t have an experienced spinner apart from Piyush Chawla. However, despite everything, the team reached the playoffs albeit some luck on their side too.

In the Eliminator game, they only needed their own performance to stay alive in the title race. As it turned out, the five-time winners thrashed Lucknow Super Giants to advance to another knockout against Gujarat Titans. Meanwhile, after the MI v LSG game, former India all-rounder Irfan Pathan has praised Sharma’s captaincy in the ongoing season.

“Rohit Sharma is a bowlers captain, the way he handles & back youngsters, I wish I had played under his captaincy in my career,” Pathan said.

Rohit Sharma led his team to qualifiers with his astute captaincy: Irfan Pathan

The 2007 20-20 World Cup winner alongside Sharma pointed out the difficulties faced by MI Skipper. Pathan further added that Sharma’s astute captaincy and marshalled the troops well.

Speaking on Star Sports’ Cricket Live, Irfan Pathan said, “Rohit Sharma has delivered once again for Mumbai Indians. He was faced with a crisis at the start of the competition when key pacer Jasprit Bumrah was out. Jofra Archer struggled with his form and fitness but this captain marshalled his troops well. He first guided MI to the eliminator and then took his team to the qualifiers with his astute captaincy.”

MI will play the defending champions, Gujarat Titans on May 26. The winner will advance to the final and face Chennai Super Kings. On the other hand, the defending champs will look to win and advance to the final at home on May 28. They are searching for their second consecutive title after CSK and MI.
