In the 70th and the last league game of the ongoing IPL 2023, Royal Challengers Bangalore hosted Gujarat Titans. Ahead of the game, the home team was coming off two back-to-back wins to remain alive for the playoffs. Also, ahead of this game, despite Mumbai Indians winning against Sunrisers Hyderabad, they couldn’t improve their NRR to go past RCB. MI needed GT to beat RCB.

On the other hand, the defending champions, Titans played their last game on May 15 and were the first team to reach the playoffs. Meanwhile, the game started almost an hour late due to rain but the teams didn’t lose overs. The likes of skipper Faf du Plessis and former skipper Virat Kohli provided a great start as they put together 67 runs in seven overs.

However, after the former’s wicket, the likes of Glenn Maxwell, Mahipal Lomror, and Dinesh Karthik failed with the bat. On the other hand, the likes of Michael Bracewell and Anuj Rawat played cameos while Kohli scored his seventh IPL hundred. They helped their side amass 197/5 at the end of the innings.

In reply, the Blue Brigade had a poor start as Wriddhiman Saha struggled with the bat. He could only get 12 off 14 balls including two fours. On the last ball of the third over, Saha was caught by Wayne Parnell off Mohammed Siraj. On 25/1, the likes of Shubman Gill and Vijay Shankar put together 123 runs for the second wicket. Right after getting to his half-century, the latter got out to Harshal Patel.

The discarded India pacer, Patel took the wicket of Sri Lanka white-ball skipper and GT player, Gujarat Titans player, Dasun Shanaka. However, Shubman Gill’s back-to-back IPL hundreds helped the team win the game by six wickets. His innings overpowered Virat Kohli’s hundred in the game. With this loss, the home team has been kicked out of the tournament, for the first time since 2019.
