Former India cricketer Aakash Chopra has raised a question about India and Pakistan not playing each other in WTC. In the 2019-21 and 2021-23 editions, both teams didn’t play each other. Apparently, if a Test has to qualify for the WTC final, both teams have to play a two-match series. For this, teams will need to get permission from their respective which might not be the case every time around.

In the upcoming WTC cycle 2023-25, India and Pakistan won’t play each other. Meanwhile, Chopra pointed out that not every team plays against each other.

“You don’t play against all teams. Can you imagine a World event in this decade where India-Pakistan don’t play at all, that they don’t play bilaterals against each other, so they won’t play in world tournament events as well – it never happens like that,’ Chopra said.

Ratings of India-Pakistan games will go sky-high: Aakash Chopra

The former India opener added that the rating for India vs Pakistan games will always be sky-high. Chopra further added that if both teams don’t play each other then why it is called a World Test Championship?

“The truth is that they get them to play the first or second match so that the tournament gets off to a good start because the commerce and economics say that India-Pakistan’s rating will go sky-high. So is WTC not a Global event?” he questioned.
