Deepfake technology is one of the drawbacks of the ever-changing field of artificial intelligence. It allows cybercriminals to not only change their voices to sound like someone else but also manipulate videos to appear genuine. Rashmika Mandana is the latest victim of deepfake. And Bollywood’s Big B Amitabh Bachchan came forward to speak about it.

A recent viral video featuring what appeared to be Animal film actor Rashmika Mandanna entering an elevator has gone viral. However, upon closer inspection, it is revealed to be a deepfake – a video that has been digitally manipulated. The deception is so convincing that it has received millions of views, including more than 2.4 million on the social media platform X, formerly known as Twitter.

The video was shared on X by journalist Abhishek Kumar, who expressed concern about the need for new legal and regulatory measures to combat the spread of fake content on the internet. The first video, featuring a woman named Zara Patel, was posted on Instagram on October 8. There is no evidence that Patel had any involvement in the creation of the deepfake video. It’s unclear who made the fake video or what their motivations were. Unfortunately, this is not an isolated incident, as numerous celebrities from various fields have been victims of similar fake videos in recent years.

Amitabh Bachchan takes a stand for Rashmika Mandanna:

The video was also shared by actor Amitabh Bachchan, who tweeted that the deepfakes are a “strong case for legal” action. The megastar also shared another tweet from a journalist on X, which contained the original British Indian video. When you compare the two videos (the deepfake and the authentic), you will notice a significant difference. Zara Patel’s face is clearly visible as she enters the elevator in the real video. However, after only a fraction of a second, the video transforms into Rashmika Mandanna’s face. Rashmika, a well-known actress in Indian cinema, rose to prominence in 2016 and has since received numerous accolades.

Deepfake is a type of synthetic media in which a person in an existing image or video is replaced with another person’s likeness using artificial intelligence. While the act of faking content is not new, deepfakes use powerful machine learning and artificial intelligence techniques to manipulate or generate visual and audio content with a high potential for deception. The netizens poured in their reactions to Amitabh’s clarifications. Check them out below.
