DC Blunder? 3 players they shouldn’t have released ahead of IPL 2024 Auctions

Delhi Capitals released some of the top players of international cricket earlier this year before the retention deadline.

One of the oldest franchises that has never won the title is Delhi Capitals. The north-Indian based franchise has reached the Indian Premier League final only on one occasion in their entire 16-year history. They had a poor outing last time around in the competition and would look to perform better this time around.

Before the retention deadline last month, Delhi Capitals released a whole heap of players. They released some players which had provided some crucial performances for the side last year. The Delhi Capitals management might come to regret these calls later on. This is because some of the players have proved to be match-winners for their sides in the past year or so.

3) Rovman Powell

The West Indies skippers’ omission from the Delhi Capitals roster proved to be a big regret already. The all-rounder has been a key part of the West Indies revival in white-ball cricket and his stunning performances have been exceptional to watch.

Powell amassed 250 runs with a 149.70 strike rate in fourteen games in IPL 2022. He was unfortunately released prior to the IPL 2024 auction after failing to duplicate this feat for Delhi the next year, scoring just 7 runs across three games. But his recent international performances have been a testament of his skill. This release might soon come back to haunt the Delhi Capitals.

2) Manish Pandey

In the IPL, veteran batter Manish Pandey has proven to be a reliable player. His ability to bring down pacers with both the new and old ball makes him handy. Strong at bat, he may tie the innings together by acting as an anchor. He can also open the innings if needed and can prove to be a match winner for the side.

At an average of 29.07, Pandey has earned 3,808 runs from 170 appearances, smashing 22 fifty-five and a century. Despite the fact that it’s only a mini-auction, a lot of sides will be keen on local Indian batters, mostly to bolster their experience. Delhi Capitals should have kept him in the squad knowing the experience that he possesses.

1) Phil Salt

Prior to the IPL 2024 auction, the Delhi Capitals released Phil Salt, who will be available for purchase for other teams now. Salt can be a terrific asset to any squad because of his extensive experience playing in several levels. The shocking thing is that he can be a terrific squad player and can come in when a player is suffering from poor form or any injury.

He can bat in the top order and might change the tide of the match with his innings. Considering that he is an explosive opener who can play aggressive cricket off the first ball, it would be intriguing to watch whether the teams make an attempt to sign him. His release still comes as a shock to the fans and are hoping the management purchases him again during the auctions.
