The star Indian off-spinner Ravichandran Ashwin praised Rinku Singh, likening him to a ‘left-handed Dhoni’ for his composed batting in challenging situations. Ashwin clarified that it’s not a direct comparison with Dhoni. But he acknowledged Rinku’s impressive calmness at the crease, a quality reminiscent of the former Indian captain.
After a stellar performance in the 2023 Indian Premier League (IPL), the left-hander earned a spot in India’s T20I squad and showcased his impressive finishing skills. In the third T20I against Afghanistan in Bengaluru, he played a crucial role by scoring an unbeaten 69 off 39 balls. The UP player even contributed to a remarkable 190-run partnership for the fifth wicket with captain Rohit Sharma, rescuing India from a precarious position at 22/4. Speaking on his YouTube channel, Ashwin praised the KKR player in the IPL for his recent heroics;
“He is somebody I’d call a left-handed Dhoni. I can’t compare him to Dhoni just yet because Dhoni is too big. But, I am talking about the composure that he brings. He has been consistently scoring buckets of runs for UP and broke his way into the Indian team,” the 37-year-old commented.
For many years Rinku Singh couldn’t get a chance to bat at practice sessions: Ravichandran Ashwin
In addition to, discussing an incident that showcased the 26-year-old’s commitment, the two-time World Event winner disclosed how the cricketer found ways to stay engaged during his time on the bench for the Kolkata Knight Riders. During his tenure at KKR, it was noted that Singh spent several years on the bench. Observers mentioned that, even if he didn’t have an opportunity to bat during practice, he conscientiously gathered all the balls hit in throwdowns and handed them back to the bowlers.
“He was on the KKR bench for many years. People used to tell me that, when he was at KKR, even though he couldn’t get the chance to bat at practice, he collected all the balls that batters hit in throwdowns and gave them back to the bowler,” Ashwin elaborated.

Every middle order hitter in Indian team gets compared to Dhoni or maybe every Indian middle order hitter who bats in at 5 or later… Rinku is more like Yuvraj Singh
