Yuzvendra Chahal, the renowned Indian leg-spinner, will soon compete for County team Kent in three four-day matches. The Indian team selectors decided to appoint Kuldeep Yadav as the lone frontline spinner, alongside all-rounders Ravindra Jadeja as well as Axar Patel to help, and leave Chahal out of the team for Team India during ODI World Cup 2023.
Chahal has only made 33 first-class matches in his career and never participated in red-ball cricket for India. The spinner last played for Haryana during the 2022–23 Ranji Trophy, claiming 87 wickets with an average of 35.25. The player has already been granted a No Objection Certificate (NOC) by the Indian Cricket Board, the Times of India said. As a result, an announcement from the County side is expected to be made soon. One source from the Indian Cricket Board who discussed the matter with TOI officials.
“As a cricketer we must accept that some things don’t always go our way” : Yuzvendra Chahal
The source stated that, “The Kent County Cricket Club will make an official announcement regarding this development soon. Chahal will play three four-day games for them. The Indian Cricket Board has granted NOC to him to play County cricket. Should he be a requirement for the India team, Chahal will join the national squad immediately.”
Many Indian athletes have travelled to England in order to keep their routines intact during the off-season. Arshdeep Singh, the tall left-arm pacer, played for Kent last season, and the County Championship will soon see players such as Sai Sudarshan, Jayant Yadav, as well as Umesh Yadav in action as well.
Yuzvendra Chahal warmed the benches during the T20 World Cup 2022, while Kuldeep Yadav, another wrist spinner, progressively displaced him in the ODI lineup. He aspires to rejoin the national squad by improving his skills in the near future.
He spoke to Times of India as he said, “Naturally, it is very disappointing to miss out any selection for India. As a cricketer we must accept that some things don’t always go our way. I must continue to try my best and hopefully my performances will justify selection again for India.”
