Bangladesh vs India

The Bangladesh vs India first Test headed into Day 5 on Sunday as a result looked imminent. Bangladesh resumed their innings on 272/6 in pursuit of the target of 513 with captain Shakib Al Hasan continuing his innings on 40. India struck early in the Day as Mohammad Siraj dismissed Mehidy Hasan Miraz.

Seeing himself running out of partners, Shakib began taking on the Indian bowlers and move the scoreboard quickly. He quickly moved to 84 and was eyeing his sixth Test hundred. However, he couldn’t reach the milestone as he got cleaned up by Kuldeep Yadav while attempting to sweep him.

After Shakib’s wicket, India inched closer to going 1-0 up in the two-match series. Kuldeep further dismissed Ebadot Hossain as he got caught at forward short-leg giving Bangladesh its ninth blow. In the very next over, Axar Patel bowled Taijul Islam as India won the match by a massive 188 run-margin. India wrapped up the match in 50 minutes on the final day.

Axar Patel was the pick of the bowlers in the second innings who picked up 4/77 in 32.2 overs. Kuldeep Yadav was awarded ‘Player of the Match’ for picking up 8 wickets in the match, a fifer in the first innings and 3 wickets in the second innings.

India climbs to the third spot in WTC points table

Cheteshwar Pujara was the top scorer for India in the Test with a 90 in the first innings and an unbeaten 102 in the second innings. Bangladesh debutant Zakir Hasan had a memorable debut scoring his maiden hundred in the first Test itself and became the fourth Bangladesh batter to achieve the feat.

India climbed to the third spot on the World Test Champion points table having points percentage of 55.77. They will further move to the second position if South Africa lose the ongoing first Test at Gabba against Australia. India have five more Tests remaining in this cycle, with four at home against the Aussies. The second Test at Dhaka will commence on 22nd December and Bangladesh will look to take some inspiration from their two victories in the ODI series at the venue to give a good fight to India.
