Ish Sodhi was run out down the non-striker’s end on Saturday during the second ODI. According to Bangladesh opener Tamim Iqbal, this was an error and he shouldn’t have been brought back.
On September 23, 2023, during the second One-Day International involving Bangladesh and New Zealand, a serious scandal concerning Sodhi surfaced. Quick pacer Hasan Mahmud of Bangladesh observed Sodhi moving up further beyond his crease towards the non-striker’s end during the game’s 46th over, which led to the incident.
Mahmud took advantage of the situation by removing the bails and requesting a run-out. Replays showed that Sodhi was out of the crease while the bails were taken out, and after Marais Erasmus, the TV umpire, reviewed the play, he decided that Sodhi was out.
But in an unexpected change of circumstances, Litton Das, the captain of Bangladesh, stepped in. Das chose to bring Sodhi back to the field after consulting with the umpires. This act of sportsmanship was widely debated around the world.
Mahmud and Sodhi hugged when he got back, and the picture spread wildfire on social media. Sodhi played admirably throughout the contest despite the issue. He helped his nation defeat Bangladesh by 86 runs, becoming the inaugural New Zealand spinner to take six wickets in an ODI.
He also added 35 runs from 39 balls to the 254 runs that New Zealand ultimately scored. The ‘Player of the Match’ award was given to him for his outstanding performance, which included a career-high six wickets and an important batsmanship effort.
“I don’t think we should react the way people are reacting”: Tamim Iqbal
According to Tamim who spoke to the media during the post-game news conference, he saw nothing wrong with the method of dismissal. Sodhi should not have been recalled after his dismissal.
He said, “I don’t see anything wrong in it. The rule is there. If we get someone out, or one of us gets out in that manner, I don’t think we should react the way people are reacting nowadays. I think it is a team decision.”
Fans react as Tamim Iqbal defends his decision of calling back Ish Sodhi during ODI vs New Zealand:

Batsman Should Follow the Rule. But Getting Someone in this way isn't in spirit of game

Its fine in the rules. Do it.

Makes sense. Remove it from the rule book if it's against the spirit of the game.
