For the first time in the history of the Asia Cup, Pakistan might not play in the tournament later this year. Asian Cricket Council (ACC) has rejected the hybrid model proposed by Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB). Apparently, India is not willing to travel to Pakistan due to non-permission from the government. In reaction to this, PCB, led by Najam Sethi offered a hybrid model.

For the unversed, Sethi said that Pakistan and other teams apart from India can play their games at a neutral venue, i.e UAE. However, cricket boards such as Sri Lanka and Bangladesh have rejected the idea. They cited extreme heat and fear of players getting injured ahead of the ODI World Cup. Now, India has rejected the same and now, it is quite possible that the tournament might be shifted to Sri Lanka entirely.

On the other hand, PCB has always objected to this proposal in the recent past. The reason for that is SLC asking for a 100 percent share in the gate money. On the other hand, UAE is only asking for 50 percent. Now, there are high chances that Pakistan might boycott the continental cup as well as the ODI World Cup.
