Mumbai Indians went against Sunrisers Hyderabad in their 5th match of the Indian Premier League 2023 at Rajiv Gandhi Stadium in Hyderabad. Coming off of a win, both teams looked properly set up to continue their good run of form but it was eventually the Rohit Sharma-led side came up victorious.
SRH won the toss and invited MI to put runs on the board. Both MI openers, Rohit Sharma and Ishan Kishan got off to a good start as the captain made 28 off 18 and the southpaw contributing 38 off 31. None of them however could convert their good start to a big total as they got out at 87.
It was the inform batter Cameron Green who took charge of the batting at made 64 off 40 with 6 fours and 2 sixes. Tilak Verma also lent a helping hand with 37 off 17 with 2 fours and 4 sixes. In the end, MI reached 192/5 in 20 overs.
Marco Jensen was the pick of the bowlers from SRH side. In reply SRH started off poorly as they lost Harry Brook at just 9. Mayank Agarwal took charge of batting and came up with a fighting 48 off 41. None of the other batters however could help him in getting close to the target. It was only Heinrich Klaasen who blasted MI bowlers with his 36 off 16 with 4 fours and 2 sixes.
Klassen’s wicket all but ended SRH’s hopes and the Aiden Markram side could only reach 178 resulting in a loss by 14 runs. Jason Behrendoff, Riley Meredith and Piyush Chawla took 2 wickets each and showed an all-round bowling display.
With this win, MI have risen to 6th on the points table with 6 points. Meanwhile, SRH remain at 9th with 4 points in 5 matches.
