‘Acha hua smith captain nhi hai’ – Fans react as Australia announce squad for World Test Championship final against India

Despite having poor form since Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2023, Australia is pouring confidence in David Warner. Warner who had a disastrous India tour will be looking to make a strong comeback

Australian Cricket Team

Ahead of the World Test Championship final against India, Cricket Australia have announced their squad for the prestigious game. Along with the championship squad, Australia also announced the team for the first two Tests of the upcoming Ashes series. Notably, the team has expressed faith in out-of-form David Warner while Pat Cummins will make his return as skipper.

India will face Australia in the final at the Oval Cricket Ground in London from June 7. Earlier, this year when India faced Australia in the four-match Test series, the host clinched the trophy by 2-1 margin. However, in the last two games, Pat Cummins was not available due to some personal reasons and it’s a good sign that the premium pacer will make a comeback in professional cricket after 3 long months.

The WTC championship match against India and the first two Ashes Test matches at Edgbaston and Lord’s will both allow for the selection of any of the 17 players chosen for the touring group. After the second Ashes Test, the selection committee will assess the composition of the team with the possibility of making adjustments for the remaining matches against England at Headingley, Old Trafford, and The Oval.

Will David Warner utilize the opportunity?

Despite having poor form since Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2023, Australia is pouring confidence in David Warner. Warner, who had a disastrous India tour, will be looking to make a strong comeback and win the game for his team. Warner will have the chance to improve on his recent track record, which includes a century in 32 Test innings dating back to the beginning of 2021. The opener’s Ashes tour average in 2019 was 9.5.

Australia’s 17-member squad:

Pat Cummins (captain), Scott Boland, Alex Carey, Cameron Green, Marcus Harris, Josh Hazlewood, Travis Head, Josh Inglis, Usman Khawaja, Marnus Labuschagne, Nathan Lyon, Mitchell Marsh, Todd Murphy, Matthew Renshaw, Steve Smith (vice-captain), Mitchell Starc, David Warner
