Commonwealth Games 2022: Day Six Results- Indian athletes add five more medals to India’s tally

India’s campaign in the Commonwealth Games 2022 has been trudging along with a mixed performance at this year’s mega event. With six days completed, India has won a total of 18 medals including five Gold medals.

Day six brought five medals to India’s bag taking their total from 13 to 18.

Let’s look at how Indian athletes performed on Day six of the Commonwealth Games 2022.

Athletics

Tejaswin Shankar got India their first medal in athletics when he won bronze in Men’s high jump with a 2.22m attempt. Manpreet Kaur on the other hand could only finish 12th in the Women’s shot put final.

Boxing

Nitu Ganghas moved to the semi-final after beating Nicole Cylde from Northern Ireland in the 48kg category. Hussam Uddin Mohammed won 4-1 in the quarterfinals to get into the semi-final. He has been assured a medal as there are two bronze medals awarded in boxing.
Nikhat Zareen also reached the semi-final with a win over Wales’s Hele Jones. Lovlina Borgohain however who won bronze in the Olympics had to crash out with a loss in the quarter-final.

Ashish Kumar lost his quarter-final match to England’s Aaron Bowne by 1-4.

Hockey

The Indian women’s team beat Canada 3-2 in their Pool A match while the men’s team thumped Cabada by a massive 8-0.

Cricket

India defeated Barbados by a massive 100 runs and secured their entry to the semi-final stage.

Lawn Bowls

Having already won a Gold in the Women’s four categories, Lawn Bowls saw further success when Mridul Borgohain won both his matches in men’s singles.

In the Women’s two categories saw India won one and tie the next match. The men’s four team and Women’s triples team lost their matches.

Judo

Tulika Mann won Silver in the women’s 78kg event to take India’s medal count to three in Judo. In Men’s 100kg event Deepak Deswal remained medal-less.

Para Table Tennis

Bhavina Patel and Sonal Patel both won their respective matches in Para table tennis. Baby Sahana however could not bring out a similar performance and lost both her matches to crash out.

Raj Aravindan Alagar won 3-2 against George Wyndham in class 3-5 but lost the next match 1-3 to Nigeria’s Isau Ogunkunle.

Squash

Sourav Ghosal won a bronze medal after defeating England’s James Willstrop 3-0. The Indian mixed doubles pair of Harinder Pal Sandhu and Jodhana Chinappa also advanced to the round of 32.

Weightlifting

Weightlifting which has brought the most number of medals for India so far in the Commonwealth Games was fruitful for India’s medal tally once again.

Lovepreet Singh with a lift of 355kg (163+192) in Men’s 109kg. Gurdeep Singh with a total of 390kg (167+223) also won bronze in Men’s 109+ kg.

Prunima Pandey came sixth with a lift of 228kg (103+125) in the Women’s 87+ kg final.
