Women’s cricket has received a huge honour after being inducted into the prestigious event of Commonwealth Games. It was after 24 years that cricket has been included in the mega event.

Indian women’s team, who are looking to bring happiness to billions of faces, entered this event with high confidence. The team however stumbled at the first roadblock. In the curtain raiser of the event, India went head-to-head against Australia and lost.

They however got back to winning ways in the next match as they defeated Pakistan by eight wickets. Looking to continue their momentum, they went head to head against Barbados in the third match.

After winning the toss, the Barbados side decided to bowl first. India, having done well in their last match, got to a poor start as they lost the wicket of Smriti Mandhana (5) in the second over itself. The other batter Shafali Verma (43) steadied the innings with Jemimah Rodrigues (56). Both added 71 runs to India’s total before Verma had to depart. Deepti Verma (34) got India to a good total of 162 in the end with quickfire 30. Barbados bowlers did not do well as they could only take four of India’s wickets.

Coming on to chase a big total, the Barbados team got to a very poor start, losing their first wicket on the third delivery itself. After their stumble, the Barbados team could not get back to their feet. Renuka Singh was again sensational as she took four wickets and came up with a great spell of 4-10-4.

Indian Women’s team in the end won the match by a massive 100 runs making a great statement to the other teams. With this win, India have also qualified for the Semi-final stage of the Women’s T20 tournament at the Commonwealth Games.

India is second in Group A with four points in three matches. They will play against one of New Zealand or England after their last match is completed.
