India won an all-important toss during the second Test against England. Yashasvi Jaiswal was on-song on day 1 as he scored a double hundred in the first innings, surpassing the next highest tally of 34.
On a field with limited assistance, Jasprit Bumrah’s stint on the second day was simply amazing. But it was also what everyone was used to hearing from the guy. He delivered with tremendous effect, utilising the reverse swing in order to pick up 6/45. This sort of effort gave India a comfortable lead in the first innings.
England succumbed at 253 runs during the first innings which gave the hosts a lead in excess of 140 runs in the first innings. Shubman Gill produced an amazing knock under pressure which gave the Indian team some hope of registering a huge total on the board. India were bowled out for 255 runs and it meant England had to chase down a whopping 399 runs to take the match.
The Mumbai Indians bowler then contributed to the conclusion of England’s struggle during the second innings by taking three wickets. With his three-for, Ravichandran Ashwin also bowled brilliantly, finishing on 499 Test wickets at the end of the Test match.
How did England fare in the second innings against Team India?
With a whopping 399 kept ahead of them, England succeeded in producing a strong showing. Zak Crawley kept them involved in the match till he reached his 73 with a brilliant performance. Still, the visitors will see a handful of dismissals as missed chances. Ben Stokes threw away his wicket with a slack run, while Joe Root produced a horrendous shot to get out.
If those two had stuck around, this could have been a lot closer on a pitch that continued to be really good and not give too much spin. In the end, Jasprit Bumrah wrapped things up and India won the game by 106 runs.
