WTC 2023-25 standings update: India climbs the points table with series-leveling victory over England

India will face England in the 3rd Test at the Saurashtra Cricket Association stadium in Rajkot on February 15th.

India rises in WTC Points table

India’s recent victory against England in the Visakhapatnam Test has pushed them up in the World Test Championship points table. In the second Test, the hosts emerged triumphant by 106 runs to level the series 1-1, which significantly impacted the WTC points table. In the second Test, India set a target of 309 runs for England, and the English team fell short, managing only 292 runs on the fourth day.

This victory catapulted India from the fifth position to the second spot in the WTC 2023-25 points table. The Indian team’s winning percentage now stands at 52.77%. The series leveller against England provided India with a substantial advantage, reflecting their improved position in the championship standings.

Having played six Tests in the current World Test Championship cycle, India secured three victories, faced two losses, and had one drawn match. This performance propelled them to the second position, showcasing the team’s resilience and determination in the ongoing championship.

Australia continues to stay at the top of the WTC points table!

At present, the top spot in the WTC points table is occupied by the Australian team, which has played ten Tests. Australia boasts a 55.00% victory rate, having won six matches, lost three, and drawn one. Despite India’s commendable rise, they are still trailing behind Australia, highlighting the competitive nature of the World Test Championship as teams vie for the ultimate position in the standings.

Meanwhile, Ben Stokes-led England are languishing in eighth place with just 21 points out of the 84 they have played for. Three Lions have played seven Tests, winning three of them. With this loss, they lost three games, while one game ended in a draw.

It’s worth noting that if India continues their winning run against England and finishes this series with a 4-1 Rohit Sharma-led team, they will surpass Australia in the points table. India will face England in the 3rd Test at the Saurashtra Cricket Association stadium in Rajkot on February 15th. Meanwhile, England has embarked on a journey to the UAE to further prepare for the ongoing series.
