After two back-to-back victories, India faces Afghanistan at the M.Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru. With the series in hand, the Indian team looked to make some changes in the playing XI to try out benched players. However, things didn’t go well with the team, as India had a poor start to the game.
Once again, after winning the toss, India skipper Rohit Sharma opted to bat first at what was considered to be a batting paradise. However, Afghani pacers had some other plans as the pitch played slowly and gave India some early setbacks. Young Afghanistan pacer Fareed Ahmad Malik destroyed the Indian top order as he dismissed both Yashashvi Jaiswal and Virat Kohli on two consecutive deliveries.
Jaiswal, in his innings, scored four runs off six balls, while Kohli registered his first-ever golden duck in T20 internationals. In the 3rd over of the innings, Kohli came to bat at number 3, and Fareed took the best out of him. Kohli attempted a pull shot, but it ended up being a scoop off the bat, making for an uncomplicated catch by the fielder at mid-off. With this, Fareed Ahmad found himself on the verge of a hat-trick, and Afghanistan was gaining momentum.
Sanju Samson also registers a golden duck
The situation escalated for India when informant Shivam Dube was dismissed by Azmatullah Omarzai in the very next over. Dube just scored a single run before falling to another short delivery. After his departure, India sent its wicketkeeper, Sanju Samson, into the middle.
Samson also failed to impress team management and establish a partnership with skipper Rohit Sharma as he was dismissed for a golden duck. He was once again dismissed by Fareed, who used another short ball to get rid of the Indian batters. After his departure, India ended the powerplay with 30 runs by losing four important wickets. In the middle, skipper Rohit Sharma, along with Rinku Singh, is trying to rescue the team.
