The Caribbean Premier League 2023 was off to a successful start with the Saint Lucia Kings facing off against defending champions Jamaica Tallawahs. It was a fascinating contest to watch and featured some good battles. The Tallawahs won the game by just 11 runs, therefore the outcome was quite tight.
The St. Lucia Kings chose to bowl first after winning the toss on a favourable pitch in St. Lucia. The Tallwahas’ captain had a standout performance with the bat. 9 fours and 3 sixes were part of Brandon King’s 81 runs in 53 balls. The opposite end did not provide the captain with enough assistance. The pitch was on the slower side, making it challenging to time the deliveries in the middle overs. But nevertheless, the Kings got to a formidable total of 187 after their 20 overs.
Imad Wasim’s excellent showing with the ball delivers the win for the Kings
Alazarri Joseph was a superb bowler for the Kings and was . In his four overs, the pacer took two wickets and gave up only 21 runs. Roston Chase took three wickets while giving up 39 runs. For the Tallawahs, Fabian Allen and Kirk McKenzie appeared in a few cameo roles and supported their skipper with the bat.
St. Lucia Kings got off to a poor start while attempting the target of 188. Imad Wasim worked his magic with the new ball. The left-arm orthodox bowler used his arm ball well as usual and gave the batsmen little time to play their strokes. The 34-year-old gave the Kings an early lead by taking the crucial scalp of Faf Du Plessis.
Wasim also secured the dismissals of Sikandar Raza as well as Kimani Melius later on in the game. Wasim only allowed 27 runs and 3 wickets in his 4 overs. The Tallawahs defeated the team by 11 runs, due to the Pakistan international’s incredible performance. Chris Green provided Imad Wasim with excellent off-break assistance. In the season’s opening game, St. Lucia Kings got two points to kick off the campaign.
