‘Few permanent residents of the NCA’ – Former India Coach Ravi Shastri slams players for recurring injuries

Notably, players like Jasprit Bumrah, Shreyas Iyer, and Deepak Chahar have been reporting to NCA for various injuries

The 16th season of the Indian Premier League is arguably one of the most injury-prone seasons of the tournament. Way before the start of the tournament, several players, including Jasprit Bumrah, Rishabh Pant, and Shreyas Iyer, were ruled out due to various injuries. Meanwhile, during the tournament players like Kane Williamson and Deepak Chahar have been Injured and are running out of the tournament.

Amid these injury scares, former India Coach Ravi Shastri slammed National Cricket Academy and several players who are suffering from recurring injuries. Speaking about this, Shastri had no chill and slammed players, calling some permanent residents of NCA. His comments have come after CSK pacer Deepak Chahar picked up a hamstring injury during Chennai’s seven-wicket win over Mumbai Indians in IPL 2023.

While speaking with ESPN Cricinfo, Ravi Shastri said, “Let’s put it this way: there are quite a few in the last three or four years who are permanent residents of the NCA. Soon, they’ll get a resident permit there to walk in any time they want, which is not a good thing at all. It’s unreal.”

“It’s damn frustrating”, says Ravi Shastri

Further speaking on the issue, Shastri said, “Come on, you’re not playing that much cricket to be injured again and again. I mean, you can’t play four matches on the trot. What are you going to the NCA for? If you are going to come back and then three matches you’re back there. So make sure you get fit and come once and for all because it’s damn frustrating. Not just for the team, the players, the Board, and the captains of the various franchises. It’s annoying, to say the least,” Shastri added.

Notably, players like Jasprit Bumrah, Shreyas Iyer, and Deepak Chahar have been reporting to NCA for various injuries and all of them have suffered them continuously. Meanwhile, the Indian team has to play three major tournaments in the next six months and the team will expect players to stay fit.
