ODI World Cup 2023

‘Jitni chadar utne paon failao’ – Fans react to Babar Azam’s bold claims about ODI World Cup 2023

The 50-over Cricket World Cup 2023 will be hosted by India between October and November.

Babar Azam makes bold World Cup claim

Pakistan are concentrating on the 50-over World Cup that will be played in India later this year, revealed skipper Babar Azam. There was some doubt over Babar’s team travelling to India for the multi-nation mega cricket tournament after India declined to travel to Pakistan for the Asia Cup.

Babar seemed confident that his squad could perform well at the World Cup even though no specific information regarding Pakistan’s tour has been finalized yet. “We are focused on the World Cup in India and will try to put up a good show during the tournament,” Babar said.

‘I will try to score runs alongside Mohammad Rizwan’ – Babar Azam

“I will try to score runs alongside Mohammad Rizwan since we have a good combination at the top. But having said that, it is not possible to score in every innings, which is why it is important not to depend on only two players in the team. However, we also have other players in the team who are eager to play a match-winning role for the team on the field,” he added.

The Pakistan skipper also opened up about facing criticism and dealing with it, “criticism will continue because it is not possible that everyone will speak in your favour. I always try to stay positive since it improves my level of confidence,” Babar said. In the 2023 season of the Pakistan Super League, Babar has been acting as the captain for Peshawar Zalmi (PSL). In the competition, he has already scored two half-centuries.

Since the 26/11 Mumbai terrorist attacks in 2008, India and Pakistan’s cricketing relations have suffered significant damage. The last time India visited Pakistan was in 2008 for the 50-over Asia Cup, where they lost to Sri Lanka in the final game. In 2012–2013, Pakistan visited India for a white-ball series. Only at multi-nation competitions have the two teams faced off, with Pakistan’s most recent trip to India taking place during the 2016 20-20 World Cup.
