‘Khel shuru hone se pehle hee drama’ – Deandra Dottin denies injury after being ruled out of Women’s T20 League opener

The Women’s T20 League begins on Saturday with Gujarat and Mumbai playing the series opener in the DY Patil Stadium.

Deandra Dottin involved in pre-season controversy

Even before the first ball of the Women’s T20 League was bowled, Deandra Dottin, the West Indies star purchased by Gujarat has sparked a pre-tournament controversy, responding bluntly to learning she would not be participating in the season opener. Dottin will not play in the league’s debut game because she is “recovering from a medical condition,” according to a report released on Friday.

On her official Instagram profile, Dottin shut down the rumours with a simple comment in one of her stories. “Get well soon from what, if I may ask?” wrote Dottin posting a screenshot of a report confirming the West Indies star’s exclusion on an Instagram post.

Deandra Dottin took to Twitter to issue a clarification on the situation

Dottin also tweeted to confirm her denial of any medical issues.  “I really appreciate all the messages, but truth be told, I’m recovering from nothing but the Holy Ghost anointing; thank you #GodIsGood #GodIsInControl,” she wrote.

The Gujarat Franchise team named Kim Garth from Australia as her replacement. She could not attract a bid at the auction last month. At the time of the auction, Garth was a member of the Australia team that won the Women’s 20-20 World Cup in South Africa.

Before the 20-20 World Cup, Garth only competed in two exhibition matches, one among them was against Ireland. After completing the necessary formalities, she moved to Australia and signed a three-year contract with the Melbourne Stars of the Women’s Big Bash League. On Friday, she joined the Giants’ practice squad.

Here’s the updated Gujarat Squad: Beth Mooney (c), Ashleigh Gardner, Sophia Dunkley, Annabel Sutherland, Harleen Deol, Kim Garth, Sneh Rana, S Meghana, Georgia Wareham, Mansi Joshi, D Hemalatha, Monica Patel, Tanuja Kanwer, Sushma Verma, Hurley Gala, Ashwani Kumari, Parunika Sisodia and Shabnam Shakil.
