Team India’s winning run in the 20-20 World Cup 2022 continued on Thursday as they registered a second consecutive win in the tournament against the Netherlands. Captain Rohit Sharma returned to form scoring 53 off 39 balls to give India a good start in the match. Former Indian cricketer Sunil Gavaskar was pleased to see Rohit Sharma returning back to form after his failure in the first match against Pakistan.
“Let’s talk about the way India are shaping up. It’s so good to see Rohit Sharma get some runs the other day, it’s so good to see Arshdeep bowling the way he did. Ashwin and Axar Patel got some wickets. So, everybody who didn’t have a great match against Pakistan, have come back well,” Gavaskar told India Today. Batting legend Gavaskar also highlighted KL Rahul’s below-par run at the 20-20 World Cup.
While Rohit, Kohli, and Suryakumar played crucial knocks for India, opener Rahul recorded his second-successive failure in the World Cup on Thursday.
“Now the only concern maybe would be around KL Rahul, who didn’t score too many runs in both matches. But he is a class act,” Gavaskar added. Rahul was dismissed for 9 off 12 balls in India’s previous encounter. Rohit-led Team India will meet South Africa in their next Super 12 fixture at the 20-20 World Cup on Sunday.
Rahul was ruled out of team India due to an injury just before the five-match T20I series against South Africa in June. The star batter made a return back to the team on the Zimbabwe tour in August. However, Rahul took some time to find his rhythm back. He could only manage to score one half-century in the Asia Cup. He further scored three half-centuries in the next six T20Is India played against Australia and South Africa.
The 30-year-old has failed to make an impact in the ongoing World Cup after scoring just 4 and 9 in the two matches so far. Rahul’s approach at the top of the order has been under the scanner as he takes some time to get set at the crease. The batter is in desperate need of some runs as India might be thinking of including the explosive Rishabh Pant in the team ahead of Rahul.
