Bangladesh went head-on with Zimbabwe in the Group 2 of the 20-20 World Cup 2022. The match saw some exciting turns as it went down to the wire. However, the Bangla Tigers held their nerve to win the match by three wickets on the final ball.

Bangladesh won the toss and decided to bat first at the Gabba. Najmul Hossain Shanto got to a flying start with the bat, but he did not get much support from his teammates. The team led by Shakib al Hasan managed only 32 runs in the first six overs and lost two wickets in the process.

Shanto continued to stabilise the innings, while Shakib al Hasan and Afif Hossain attempted to score some runs. The former completed his half-centuries, but the other could not do much in the innings. In the end, Bangladesh managed to put up a score of 150/7 in their allotted 20 overs.

Zimbabwe’s chase also got off to a shaky start, as they lost their top three batters during the powerplay. Meanwhile, Sean Williams attempted to get the team in shape, while wickets continued to fall. He did well to keep the runs flowing for the team and completed his half-century.

He got his team close to the target, but he was out in the 19th over for a team score of 132. The equation came down to 16 runs in the final over with Brad Evans and Ryan Burl in the middle. Burl scored a single on the first ball, but Evans gave away his wicket on the next ball.

Richard Ngarava then scored a four off leg-byes and a six to get the team extremely close to winning. On the next ball, he attempted to step out and hit the bowler out of the park, but he completely missed the ball and was stumped.

Bangladesh’s celebrations began when they stumped Blessing Muzarabani on the final ball of the match. As it turns out, it was a no-ball as the wicketkeeper collected the ball in front of the stumps. With the drama unfolding, Zimbabwe needed four runs to win on the last ball. In an anti-climactic end, Muzrabani could not take his team through and handed Bangladesh a 3-run victory.
