The 20-20 World Cup which started off with an upset in the first match as Sri Lanka were defeated by Namibia, continues to bring more of the same. Australia were given a massive defeat in the Super 12 opener and now England have been thumped by Ireland by 5 runs in another shocking result.
Coming on to bat first, the European minnows started off well and created 21 before the first wicket fell. Captain Andrew Balbirnie who has been exceptionally well coming into the mega event, showcased his batting masterclass yet again. In just 47 deliveries the Irish batter made 62 runs. Lorcan Tucker also played a handy knock of 34 off of 27 balls. Although their lower order failed to fire, they still reached 157/10 in 19.2 overs.
While the target did not look that threatening, the Ireland bowlers made it so with their deadly bowling. Joshua Little dismissed England opener, Jos Butler, on the second ball itself throwing the game wide open. Another opener Alex Hales was also dismissed in the third over piling more pressure on the England team.
Ben Stokes getting out at just 6 runs and Harry Brook at 18 brought misery for the England team and it looked all gloomy for the red and white team. Moeen Ali came in and took control of the match with his 12-ball 24 but this was when the rain gods came in to interrupt the game.
With the England team still, 5 runs short, Ireland were adjudged the winners with the DLS method by the umpires. Ireland’s win has now thrown the Group of death wide open as it has five teams at two points after two matches. Ireland has now moved to fourth ahead of host Australia in the Group.
Twitter was understandably buzzing as the minnow team defeated the former World Cup winner.

I kinda enjoy it when weird rules come into play against England. Cricket is a beautiful game.

One of the best days in Ireland cricket history – beating one of the favourites of the T20 World Cup, England.
They've played some world class cricket this year, an absolute deserving win for them.
