The ninth match of the Legends League Cricket 2022 pitted Bhilwara Kings against Gujarat Giants. Let’s look at the match report for the high-scoring affair.
Match 9: Bhilwara Kings vs Gujarat Giants
The Irfan Pathan-led side were invited to bat first after Gujarat Giants won the toss. Coming onto bat first, the Bhilwara Kings got off to a great start as both their openers clinched their respective half-centuries.
Morne van Wyk made 50 runs in 28 deliveries with four boundaries and four sixes while William Porterfield did even better with 64. The Ireland batter took just 33 deliveries and hit 10 fours and two sixes. Jesal Karia also smashed a quickfire 43 off of 29 along with Irfan Pathan (34) to take the team to a massive 222/4 in the first inning.
Ashok Dinda, Kotarangada Appanna, Graeme Swann and Thisara Perera took one wicket each but could not halt Bhilwara Kings’ charge to a big score.
Coming onto chase the massive total, the Gujarat Giants got off to a poor start as they lost their first wicket at just three runs. Captain Virender Sehwag (27) and Chris Gayle (15) held the floodgates for a while but couldn’t do it for much longer. Yashpal Singh hit a half-century in vain as he could not get their team across the finish line. Wickets continued to fall from the Gujarat Giants’ side and they could only reach 165/10 in 19.4 overs.
Sreesanth was the best bowler from the Bhilwara side as he took three wickets in his four overs spell. Jesal Karia and Fidel Edwards took two wickets each. Tino Best, Dinesh Salunkhe and Monty Panesar also supported the other bowlers with one wicket of their own.
With this win, the Bhilwara Kings move to second on the league table having five points. They have won two out of their five matches so far. Gujarat Giants meanwhile slide to third on the table with the same number of points in the same number of games but with a worse net run rate.
William Porterfield was adjudged the Player of the Match for the ninth game of the Legends League Cricket for his quickfire 64 in 33.
