The Punjab Kings (PBKS) released three unexpected names and dismissed a total of five players before the retention deadline. Despite having a strong roster, they still lack innovation in key areas of the team. Each year they have potential, but ultimately they have a run of subpar performances that force them to be eliminated.
With an estimated budget of 29.1 crore, the Punjab Kings are heading to Dubai where they may try to spend lavishly once more in an attempt to win the coveted IPL Title. This article examines the five international players that Punjab Kings could bid for in the 2024 IPL Auction.

5) Steve Smith
In the 2021 IPL, Steve Smith last competed for the Delhi Capitals. The ODI World Cup 2023 winner has extensive IPL experience and is a formidable opponent. He will provide the batting order with plenty of strength. PBKS encountered middle-order problems in the previous season. In several games, the middle order was unable to build on opener Shikhar Dhawan’s strong start. In order to improve their middle order during the upcoming season, PBKS might look to buy the right-handed opener.
4) Rachin Ravindra
The New Zealander top order has the versatility to bat anywhere in the batting order. If necessary, he may bat in the middle of the order and begin the innings. After the ODI World Cup 2023, he has changed as a player and is now more assured, deadly, and accurate with his strokeplay. Rachin Ravindra is composed, has a strong back foot game, and can play late. He is a fierce puller of the short ball and possesses an excellent cut stroke. While all of the other teams will want to get Ravindra, Punjab Kings may be the club that needs him the most since they lack an all-round player who can bowl with spin.
3) Jason Holder
The former captain of the West Indies, has established an outstanding track record as an all-rounder in T20 tournaments throughout the world. As a cunning seam player, swing-bowler, and technically adept lower-middle order batter, Jason Holder has established a solid reputation. His versatility makes him an invaluable asset, giving the franchise balance both in the bowling and hitting departments. If Punjab were to sign Holder, they would be getting a valuable player whose expertise would be invaluable to the squad.
2) Daryl Mitchell
For Daryl Mitchell, one of the best franchises to go would be Punjab Kings. Although Mitchell can play anywhere in the middle order, he can also bat in the top order. For Punjab to provide the necessary sturdiness in the batting order, they need an experienced batsman like Daryl Mitchell. Punjab Kings’s batting display in the previous season was disappointing, and Mitchell’s arrival would improve the batting order. His part-time bowling can be useful for the franchise on slow pitches and rank turners. He would be a costly pick but a worthy investment in the long run.
1) Travis Head
Punjab Kings might look to target one of the biggest players during the auctions. Despite Travis Head’s INR 2 crore price tag, Punjab Kings will still aim to acquire the Australian opener. The 29-year-old has the ability to bowl some helpful off-spin, play in the middle order, and bat in the top order as well. He has shown his epic performances in the shortwhile he spent in India earlier this year. By grabbing him in the IPL 2024 Auctions, the Punjab Kings can certainly be one of the strongest sides this time around.
