The concern about the Indian team’s performance seems to increase after every passing day and also after every match. Also, it is very much evident that the Indian team is currently struggling to get their hands on any of the major titles for almost a decade now.
It was only under the captaincy of MS Dhoni that India last won the title of Champions Trophy back in the year 2013. As far as T20 cricket is considered, the Indian team won the inaugural edition of the T20 World Cup and ever since then, there has been a drought of trophies in the shortest format of the game.
India consistently produces some of the top cricket players in the world, but they have yet to take home a big trophy. Daren Sammy, the head coach of the West Indies, made a playful jab at the team for failing to win a significant trophy after noticing the team’s lack of major titles.
Sammy lavished admiration on India’s youth and expressed the opinion that, despite the country creating some of the best talent, it is crucial to keep in mind who, in the end, is winning the international competitions.
“When you the see the players, they’ve been able to produce, Hardik Pandya, (Yashasvi) Jaiswal all the guys they produced over the years but you must also remember who’s winning the international tournaments,” Daren Sammy said in a conversation with journalist Vimal Kumar on his YouTube channel.
First Class cricket is to be praised for players: Sammy
Sammy also had nothing but huge praise for the young Indian players like Yashasvi Jaiswal, who recently made his international debut and also performed exceptionally well in the limited options that he has got. According to Sammy, Jaiswal appeared as though he belonged on the largest platform because of the calibre of first-class cricket.
“Jaiswal has 1800 runs in first-class cricket in nine matches, nine hundred, and then he comes to Dominica in his debut game, and he looks like he belonged at the international level. That comes from the standard of first-class cricket in India that is allowing the youngsters, when they come in, to be ready for international cricket,” Sammy concluded.
