‘Ye test toh jeet he jayega India’ – Fans react to Day 4 proceedings between India and West Indies in the 2nd Test

Ashwin grabs two quick wickets as India hold upper hand going into the final day of the second test

India vs West Indies

India put itself in a strong position to win the second Test against the West Indies on Day Four at the Queen’s Park Oval in Port of Spain, Trinidad on Monday, thanks to some aggressive batting and careful bowling.

At the close of the day’s play, West Indies, who were attempting to reach a difficult 365-run target, were reduced to 76 for two, with off-spinner Ravichandran Ashwin taking both wickets. Earlier, within the first hour of play, Mohammed Siraj led the charge with a fifer to bowl the West Indies with a score of 255 in the first innings. This gave India a glimmer of hope that they had a good chance to clinch the match.

Then, India immediately made a strong start, as batters Rohit Sharma along with Yashasvi Jaiswal stitched up a 98-run partnership and it seemed like they were opening in T20Is because of the speed at which they were scoring the runs.

Jaiswal opened the proceedings by batting against Kemar Roach with a six and a four in the opening over. After a four versus Alzarri Joseph in the second over, Rohit launched his assault. A few overs later, the Indian team skipper would smash Roach to a boundary as well as six runs.

Rohit Sharma received a few more lives as a result of dropped catches before he reached fifty. Ishan Kishan, who was moved up to No. 4, came in with a 33-ball fifty after India lost both their openers on either side of the rain break. His powerful innings after the rain break was enough for the Indian team to take them to a good total and have a crack at the Windies.

Despite having slim chances of success, Caribbeans skipper Kraigg Brathwaite got things going for his team with a meaningful knock that was a little aggressive and showed his full-range strokes. He had the support of Tagenarine Chanderpaul, who kept down the other end. But Ashwin, who took two early wickets that helped India retake the upper hand, dashed West Indies’ hopes of finishing the day unscathed.

Indian bowlers will be hoping for the full quota of overs on Day five to have a shot at winning the game for their side. But if things start going the way of the West Indies, a draw or even a win for the hosts cannot be ruled out. All four results are possible going into the final day of this test series with valuable WTC points on the line.
