‘Yahi din dekhna reh gya tha’ – Fans react as India lose second ODI vs West Indies

India and the West Indies are currently playing in a multi-format series, and in the second ODI, the hosts pulled off a stunning comeback to win for the first time in the series. The Indian side won the toss and elected to bat, and they had a strong start to the game. Ishan Kishan and Shubman Gill scored 55 and 34 runs, respectively, in their opening innings.

But after the openers, it was the top and middle orders’ ineptitude that resulted in the visitors getting bowled out for a meagre total. Axar Patel only managed to score one run, while captain Hardik Pandya added seven more runs to the total. Sanju Samson scored nine runs. Suryakumar Yadav amassed 24 runs, with Ravindra Jadeja scoring 10 and Shardul Thakur being unbeaten at 16 runs.

The Indian batter’s poor performances resulted in them being bowled out for only 181 runs, which was respectable in the eyes of the West Indies. With three wickets each, Gudakesh Motie and Romario Shepherd had an impact with the ball in the first innings, helping the West Indies restrict India’s total. Jayden Seales and Yannic Cariah each had a wicket, and Alzarri Joseph grabbed two.

Captain leading from the front

The hosts had a poor start to the run chase as the Windies started to chase the target of 182 runs as openers Brandon King and Kyle Mayers were both out for 15 and 36 runs, respectively. Furthermore, after Alick Athanaze was fired after just six runs, things only got worse for them.

Shai Hope’s knock helped the team secure the victory just as they appeared to be headed for yet another defeat. The Windies levelled the score and won the game by six wickets after scoring 63* runs in 80 deliveries with Keacy Carty’s unbeaten 48-run performance. As the Indian team approaches the third ODI there are a lot of questions that need to be answered about the player questions as well as team selection.
