UP Warriorz skipper Allysa Healy won the toss and opted to bowl first against the Mumbai Indians. Yastika Bhatia and Hayley Matthews started the innings on a slow note. The duo were only able to score 13 runs in the first four overs. They increased the tempo as they reached 50 runs in the next 3 overs.
Yastika Bhatia found the fielder at short mid-wicket and was the first to depart to the pavilion. Matthews anchored the innings with a brilliant 55 which gave the team the momentum it needed. She was able to forge meaningful stands as the rest of the middle order made valuable contributions.
UP’s catching and fielding were lacking and if they had been able to capitalize on those chances, they would have kept the opponents to a mediocre total. They would still think they have a possibility of pursuing the 163-run target. Every bowler in action tonight has taken one wicket, but with runs already scored, the Mumbai Indians should feel comfortable in getting the win.
UP Warriorz claim first points after win over Mumbai Indians
Kiran Navgire put up the platform and she was on point from the first ball. Navgire was given the opportunity to begin the batting when Vrinda Dinesh injured her shoulder during the first innings. She outscored Healy throughout that stand and hit the ball cleanly, which is quite a tremendous accomplishment. However, UPW faltered to 98/3 from 94/0, and the contest was once more open.
That’s when Grace Harris and Deepti Sharma teamed up, played well, and put the poor balls away to craft a superb victory. Their 65-run undefeated streak ended quickly. Their team would wish to build on this as it provided them with their first points in the competition.
Interim skipper Natalie Sciver-Brunt spoke to the media after the game as she reflected on her team’s loss. She said, “When you win the toss and bowl first it’s always an advantage, the ball came nicely onto the bat under the lights, and Navgire’s innings took the game away from us. No concerns with our batting, it didn’t come out well tonight. Not too worried about our bowling, it didn’t go well for us today evening.”
