The upcoming second season of the Women’s Premier League (WPL) in 2024 follows the inaugural edition that concluded in March. After franchises conducted trials several months ago, they finalized their retention lists. Notably, the Gujarat Giants released 11 players, while the runner-up of the inaugural edition, Delhi Capitals, released the fewest players.
Across the five franchises, 60 players, including 21 overseas cricketers, were retained, and 29 players were released from their squads. Major players were retained, but Annabel Sutherland and Megan Schutt were released. The Gujarat Giants, who had a forgettable season finishing at the bottom of the table, retained key players such as Ashleigh Gardner, Beth Mooney, Dayalan Hemalatha, Harleen Deol, Laura Wolvaardt, Shabnam Shakil, Sneh Rana, and Tanuja Kanwer.
