India and Bangladesh are facing off in the 17th match of the ODI World Cup 2023 on Thursday, October 19, at the Maharashtra Cricket Association Stadium in Pune. After winning the toss, Bangladesh captain Najmul Hossain Shanto opted to bat first. Indian seamers Jasprit Bumrah and Mohammad Siraj made a promising start for their side, conceding only six runs in the initial four overs of the innings.

In the ninth over the match saw, Hardik Pandya sustaining an injury to which physio came in to check upon him. Despite the check-up, Hardik appeared uneasy, prompting Virat Kohli to step in and bowl the remaining three deliveries. During Litton Das’s strong shot, Hardik attempted to stop it with his right leg, resulting in visible discomfort that prevented him from continuing. Nonetheless, for fans, this unexpected turn of events provided a rare opportunity to witness Virat Kohli in action as a bowler.

Shakib Al Hasan miss out due to injury

In the ODI World Cup clash between India and Bangladesh, Najmul Hussain Shanto took place off Shakib Al Hasan. Winning the toss, Shanto chose to bat first, clarifying Shakib’s absence due to injury, stating he’s “struggling a bit,” with Nasum Ahmed as his replacement. This unexpected development increased anticipation among fans for updates on Shakib’s condition and how Bangladesh would perform without him. The absence of Taskin Ahmed, a key pacer alongside Mustafizur Rahman, was noteworthy. Though Taskin could have been a potent threat with the new ball, Bangladesh’s strategic move saw Hasan Mahmud taking his place.

Shakib watched the clash against India from the sidelines, nursing an injury sustained in a previous match against New Zealand in the ODI World Cup 2023. Despite injuring his left quadriceps, Shakib showcased determination, scoring a 51-ball 40 and completing his full quota of 10 overs. Bangladesh’s coach, Chandika Hathurusingha, emphasized that Shakib would only participate in the World Cup match against India if he regains full fitness.
