Ever since Nurul Hasan accused Virat Kohli of fake fielding post the thriller between India and Bangladesh in the ongoing 20-20 World Cup 2022 on November 2, Wednesday, the Indian superstar has been hitting the headlines and many fans opined that he must be punished for the same.
Aakash Chopra, the former Indian cricketer, said that it was a fake fielding and added that India would have been slapped with 5 runs penalty if the umpires had noticed it. Further, admitting that Bangladesh’s claims were right, Chopra said that nothing can be done now as no one noticed it.
For the unversed, Arshdeep Singh, during Bangladesh’s chase in the 7th over, threw the ball from the boundary and Kohli, who was within the 30-year-circle gestured as if he had the ball and threw it to the non-striker’s end. However, none of the two batters was disturbed by the same and it went unnoticed.
Yes that is 100% fake fielding: Chopra
Further, Chopra said that it was on the umpires to remain cautious and requested the officials to have an eye on the same in the upcoming matches. To comment more on the same, India won the clash by 5 runs and a penalty would have cost the Men in Blue, the crucial match.
“Woh fake fielding tha, 100% tha, wo jo throw marne ka prayas kia wo agar umpire dekhte toh 5 run ki pentaly padti humko aur 5 run se hum match bhi jeete. (Yes that 100% fake fielding because of the way he attempted to throw the ball. If the umpires had seen it then we would’ve been slapped with a five-run penalty and we’ve won by five runs only.) So we escaped here but next time if someone does this then the umpires will have to be more careful. So are Bangladesh right? Yes, they are but nobody noticed it then so can’t do anything now,” Chopra said on his YouTube channel.
“Now what happened in this case? The on-field umpire didn’t see. It completely went unnoticed. If no one has seen it then you can’t charge it. The law says that the umpires need to notice it and judge it. Maybe the third umpire, if it’s in jurisdiction, can also intervene,” he added.
