Ravi Shastri opens up on 2016 20-20 World Cup thriller

Even though it has been 6 years since the tense India-Bangladesh clash in the 2016 20-20 World Cup, fans are still cherishing the epic run-out from the then-skipper MS Dhoni and the epic win that followed the stunner. Defending 146, the then-Indian team under the leadership of Dhoni, pulled off a miracle in the last over, after almost losing the match.

However, the Men in Blue lost to West Indies in the semi-finals of the epic tournament. Recalling the win, Ravi Shastri, the former India coach, said that he went to the toilet once Dhoni handed the ball to Hardik Pandya, who successfully defended 11 runs and also picked 2 wickets in the final over.

“I saw [MS] Dhoni give the ball to Hardik [Pandya]. I went to the toilet. I wasn’t going to face the tension. They had gathered the players in the balcony as they only needed three runs or whatever. I went to the toilet,” Shastri was quoted as saying on Star Sports.

India-Bangladesh thrillers that never end

The clash between India and Bangladesh in the ongoing 20-20 World Cup 2022 on November 2, Wednesday turned out to be a thriller as the Men in Blue went on to win the match by 5 runs by the DLS method. Defending a total of 184, the Indian team conceded too many runs in the powerplay as the Bangla Tigers scored 60 runs for no wicket. However, post the 7th over, the match was paused on account of rain interruption and the target was revised to 151 off 16 overs.

However, the Indian team, who gained momentum post the rain break, ended up clinching the match by 5 runs and made it to the top of the Group 2 points table. Rohit Sharma, the skipper of the Indian team, was delighted with the win and said that the match could have gone either way.

“Bit of both. I was calm and nervous at the same time. It was important for us as a group to stay calm and execute our plans. With 10 wickets in hand it could’ve gone either way but after the break we did well. When he came into the scene [on Arshdeep], we asked him to do that for us,” said Rohit after the match.
