Five-time winners Mumbai are already ousted from the playoff race of the ongoing Indian T20 League 2022. They lost their first eight games where they were found wanting in all departments of the game. Barring Suryakumar Yadav, none of the players have done well for the team. Youngsters such as Dewald Brevis, and Tilak Varma have shown glimpses of brilliance but they have been slightly inconsistent.
Recently, the five-time winners gave the opportunities to youngsters such as Hrithik Shokeen and Kumar Kartikeya. Kartikeya’s two wickets against Rajasthan helped the team register their first victory of the season. With the team standing no chance to qualify for the playoffs, the question arises whether Arjun Tendulkar, who is yet to play a game in the cash-rich since becoming part of the team in 2021, will get a chance or not.
Meanwhile, Head coach Mahela Jayawardene has spoke about the possibilities of Arjun getting a chance. Jayawardene said that every player in the team can get a chance in the XI. The former Sri Lanka skipper mentioned that the Jr. Tendulkar’s debut will depend on the match-ups.
“Well, I think everyone is the squad is an option. We will see how things go. It is about match-ups and how we can win the matches and our priority is to make sure that we get the right match-ups.
“Every game is a confidence thing, we managed to get our first win and it is about stringing wins together and get the confidence back. It is about putting the best guys in the park. If Arjun is one of them, then we will consider it, yes, but it all depends on the combination that we put out,” Mahela Jayawardene said as quoted by India Today. Arjun is a left-arm medium pacer who became part of the Mumbai setup for the first time last year. He didn’t play a game last season. This year, he was bought back by the team and is still looking for his first opportunity.
